| Understand YOUR School Budget |
|
K-12 education spends more tax dollars than any other government function. School budgets, of course, are created locally by superintendents and school committees. Comparing one school district's spending to another's should be easy - but it isn't. MPSRG has created a tool for citizens to analyse their local school budget. Because the "raw data" is not readily available on-line at the Department of Education's web site the tool requires some legwork. It will, though, give you the understanding necessary to ask informed questions and track the choices being made by local officials. As the legislature has worked on its school consolidation plan over the last few months, "budget transparency" has been an important topic. Both legislators and the Department of Education insist that more "real time" information will be available for the 2008 budget season. Click here to open MPSRG's budget analysis tool.
